Tips and tricks to help you determine how much storage space you need to rent

Trying to determine what size storage unit you should rent? Here are a few different tricks to determine what size storage unit near you to rent:
Bedroom Size
The average bedroom size is 132 square feet. Picture storing your belongings in one of your bedrooms.
- Will it all fit? You can probably get by with a 10x10 storage unit.
- Too big? Try a 5x5 or 5x10 storage unit, our smallest sizes.
- Not enough room? We have bigger storage units available: 10x20 and 10x30 storage units
Remember, you can stack your belongings, so you can fit more into a storage unit than you typically would in a bedroom that's being lived in.
Tape Measurer
What's the biggest item you need to store? If you have a tape measurer, measure the longest part of that item. That tells you the minimum size storage unit you need. You can also measure out the dimensions of a unit on the floor of your house to help visualize how big the storage units are before you rent them online.
Arm Length Measurement
Don't have a tape measurer? No problem, use your arms. Typically, your wingspan length (from the tip of one hand to the other) is roughly the same distance as your height. Use your wingspan to see how big your items are. It's not a perfect rule, but it's better than nothing.
The most common storage unit sizes we offer are as follows:
- Small: 5' x 5' and 5' x 10' storage units
- Medium: 10' x 10' storage units
- Large: 10' x 20' storage units
